Friends Background
For more than 200 years "Friends" groups nationwide have served as connecting links between libraries and their communities. The plan educational programs for adults, teens and children, volunteer at library events, raise funds for special projects and even lobby for local, state and national library legislation.
Maine has approximately 100 "Friends of the Library" groups throughout the state and an active state organization "Friends of Maine Libraries" (FOML) based at the Maine State Library in Augusta. (www.friendsofmainelibraries.org)
Friends of the Old Orchard Beach Library was re-established in 2005. Please join us! The cost is minimal and the benefits are limited only by our imaginations.
Friends support the Old Orchard Beach Library by:
Increasing community-based support for the library
Supporting expanded library programs and services
Raising funds for projects and acquisitions in excess of the library budget
Advocating for annual budget requests presented to the Town Council
Encouraging membership to those who value the importance of the library's contribution to our community
Book Shed ~
The Book Shed is an ongoing fundraiser run by the Friends of Libby Library of materials that have been withdrawn from library circulation and donations that have been so generously given by others. They have books, movies, puzzles and more.
